About the Washburn Technique;
Avoiding surgery and eliminating pain without medication are attainable goals with this proven technique (developed by Caryl Washburn, MA, OTR over 30 years ago). From evaluation through application as both therapist and client, workshop participants will develop a new skill and a new appreciation for the often-unidentified factors contributing to CTS and other Pain Syndromes.
Although promoted as a Non Surgical Intervention for Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, the Washburn Technique is equally as effective in providing pain relief for a variety of pain syndromes, including but not limited to, Fibromyalgia, Graft vs. Host Disease, Tendonitis, and Headaches. (read testimonial results with a variety of different pain syndromes and conditions)
Upon completion of this course, workshop participants will be able to immediately utilize the skills/technique learned to provide for their clients, pain relief with out medication/surgery.

The Washburn Technique integrates the philosophy, theory and practice of Occupational Therapy, Myofascial Release (MFR), Cranial Sacral Therapy (CST) and other modalities and philosophies for an integrated approach in the treatment of cumulative trauma dysfunction (CTD) which includes carpal tunnel and other pain syndromes.

***This is not a teaching course for MFR or CTS***

NON SURGICAL INTERVENTION OF CARPAL TUNNEL AND OTHER PAIN SYNDROMES

OBJECTIVES
At the end of this exciting workshop the attendee will be able to:

  1. Demonstrate at least 3 new hands on techniques that will give the attendee superior choices of treatment.
  2. Demonstrate understanding of the problems with the traditional approach to CTS by describing at least two of those limitations
  3. Demonstrate an intake technique which graphically identifies for the therapist, as well as the patient, the underlying problems commonly associated with CTS.
  4. Demonstrate and explain the principle behind the exercise “Washburn Thrust” which can dramatically reduce the risk of developing CTS when incorporated in to a daily preventative exercise program.
  5. Demonstrate an understanding of CTS by defining the origin, cause, early symptoms, progression, non-surgical treatment and resolution of CTS through this technique.
  6. Demonstrate an understanding of the varied applications of the Washburn Technique by describing three additional diagnoses that can be impacted positively by this approach.
